In order to increase public awareness of highway safety, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) allows the placement of memorial markers throughout the state’s highways to memorialize people who have passed away as a result of a vehicle related accident. The placement of memorial markers reminds motorists to protect human life by driving safely.
During the project, it may be necessary to remove memorial markers that are impacted by construction. Once the construction project has been completed, families of loved ones that have passed away along I-75 are more than welcomed to apply for a new memorial marker to be installed. As a reminder, memorial markers are not to be decorated with ornaments or floral arrangements of any kind. For additional information, you can download FDOT’s memorial marker policy below.
